Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. The village lies about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) to the east of the Rhône and 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) north of the town of Avignon.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a small village for its size but great for its  wine reputation.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a French wine Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) located around the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône wine region in southeastern France. It is one of the most renowned appellations of the southern part of the Rhône Valley. Vineyards are located around Châteauneuf-du-Pape and in the neighboring villages Bédarrides, Courthézon and Sorgues between Avignon and Orang. eThe area of the Châteauneuf appellation expands to 3 200 hectares and has 300 producers and only 13 grape varieties are allowed for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC.

The famous Domaine de Pignan, is owned by Frederic Charvin, a winemaker who looks like a rugby player. He's an enthusiast who was able to develop its wines over time and create among the most famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines.. here's how he achieves this :

  • « The harvest » : the grapes are sorted and picked by hand at a very advanced technological maturity to obtain aroma well mature The vines, sorted and harvested are subjects of the greatest attention before being transformed into a divine nectar.It is a serious and expensive work.
  • « The pressing »: this intervention consists in bursting open the vine in order to extract the pulp and the juice.Then put into concrete vat after 95 % of stratching.
  • The « maceration » : lasts 15 to 21 days on average. Reassembly and release daily. The control of the temperature is done several times a day, it must be kept between 28 and 30 degrees. The drop beyond these temperatures is made with a refrigerator system.
