Jean-Philippe Fichet : a wine estate committed to organic vine growing
Less publicized than other winemakers of Côte de Beaune, Jean-Philippe Fichet still offers high quality wines that deserve way more exposure. Its secret nature is also a part of its charm and contributes to its value. Mr Fichet, a person of great talent, pursues his activity with passion and dedication. Aged 20, in 1981, he made his first vintage with his father's support, thanks to the transmission of sharecropping agreement of the latter. However, 10 years later, in 1991 this agreement comes to an end and he looses the 4 hectares he farms. His hard work and determination allowed him to rebuild his wine estate by negotiating long-term wine farming agreements in Meursault and Auxey-Duresses. Then, over the years, his activity develops and expands and in 2002 he creates his company.
A family vineyard in Côte de Beaune
Jean-Philippe Fichet represents the third generation of winemakers of his family. And since his first vintage he has always done a rigorous work in order to produce high quality wines. For example, he made a thorough study of his land in order to have a perfect understanding of each parcel. Moreover, he is an adept of manual work : the vines are ploughed in a traditional manner in order to preserve the soil. He also makes his compost as a part of sustainable winemaking and is committed to respect the environment. Hence he only treats his vines in case of important disease and cultivates his vines following the organic farming principles. Also, the grapes are picked manually and pressed in pneumatic wine-presses. Lastly, the wine is bottled in the wine estate. Nothing is left to chance, from choice of corks to vines cultivation which perfectly reflects the wine maker's philosophy.
The wines expressing the essence of Mersault great terroirs
