Rhône Valley: A large choice of wines and appellations
Second biggest vineyard of France, Rhône Valley vineyards cover 75 600 hectares. All types of wines in different proportions are present in this region : dry, sweet, sparkling, red, white and rosé. Numerous grape varieties like Syrah, Grenache, Marsanne, Clairette, Roussanne and some rare ones like Counoise and Vaccarèse. We should distinguish two big sections : the northern part and the southern one. As for the appellations, the choice is large as well, as there are Côtes-du-Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Crozes-Hermitage, Clairette-de-Die, Vacqueyras, Gigondas and many others represented on our website.
A longstanding French wine region
The first vineyards were planted on this territory in the IV century AD by the Greeks. which means like a pretty long time ago ! After that the vineyard was extended by the Templars planting vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the XII century and by the Popes that moved to Avignon. These two historical events were important for the region. Even after suffering from phylloxera in 1860 the vineyard bounced back several decades later after creation of the first AOC (registered designation of origin), like Côtes-du-Rhône in 1937 for example. Today, the vineyards spread over 6 departments. The wine of the right bank of the Rhône river are particularly appreciated for their finesse and fruity notes, when those of the left bank are heavy and full-bodied.
Wine references available on our online shop
