Domaine Michel Gay & fils : great wines from the Côte de Beaune

The Domaine Michel Gay was founded by Michel Gay in 1992 who is currently working with his son Sébastien. Located in Chorey-lès-Beaune, it spreads on about 10 hectares where you can find Pinot noir (100%), Aligoté (80%) and Chardonnay (20%). The vines are 40 years old on average and are cultivated on an organic farming approach, even if the Domaine has not claimed this certification yet. Well-known for their seriousness, father and son work the soil with love and passion. The vinification is then made the old fashion way and the wines are matured in oak casks. A rigorous and crucial labor which allowed them to prevail as a reference in the Burgundy region.

A sensible wine-growing held with respect of the traditions

The Domaine Michel Gay & fils decided then to commit to organic farming without claiming the certification though. They are following sustainable farming principles, a process that was developed during the 90’s, which means the treating using phytosanitary products are not part of a routine and only used if necessary. On the vineyard, soils are tilled mechanically having regard to climatic conditions. The grape harvest is manual and the oak barrel ageing procedure is conducted with screening and no filtration : the whole process lasts about 15 months. A way of proceeding that shows how much the Gay family is willing to produce high-end wines in perfect accordance with their terroirs.
