Maybe it should be emphasized that its the only beverage to bear the name of its appellation which is extremely protected. That is why no other alcohol drink has the right to be called « champagne ». According to some ancient sources, Champagne vineyard dates back to the IV century A.D. But it's in the VII century that monks, princes and clergymen developed wine production in this region. By the way, Champagne had the privilege to be tasted during the crowning ceremony of French kings. There's a legend saying that this wine became sparkling thanks to the wine making method, developed by the famous Dom Pérignon. Nowadays, this name is a symbol of high-end and exceptional Grand Crus.
